Bobby Moore Statue
Have you all seen Philip Jackson's statue of Bobby Moore, which was unveiled yesterday outside the new Wembley Stadium? It's a very poor likeness of that famous face. I met Bobby a few times at the height of his career, and not only is the likeness poor, but also it fails to capture the spirit of the man. That triumphal pose, like a big-game hunter with a foot on an animal he's just shot, is all wrong. I don't know how Jackson keeps getting work, if this is the best he can do.

Would love the opportunity to create such a piece...time,space,money,lack of contacts etc. I would work at a likeness with an obsessive vengence! But then I haven't got any past such examples to show:(.
Hi, Naj
I didn't realise you were into sculpture. I suppose you could do it the easy way, like Antony Gormley: make a body cast of your naked self and stick 31 statues on London roofs.
I suspect the way the whole art scene works (with the exception of Banksy) is that you need to get into one of the prestigious art colleges, like the Royal Academy of Arts, and the critics flock to the graduation exhibition to see if they can spot the next in-thing. If they like you and think you are the next in-thing, you're made. They'll give you rave reviews and witter on about how profound you're art is. And the commissions come flooding in. For the rest it's a hard slog selling anything. If you can make a living at it, you're an artist.
