Shock! Horror! Arts Council England will receive an extra £50m of tax-payers hard-earned money by 2011, bringing its annual budget to £467m! If this money were spent on genuine art, I wouldn't begrudge it a penny, but it supports a grossly top-heavy command structure of fashionable nitwits, ex-sociologists and the like, all of whom seem determined to finance the worst tripe they can find. These parasites on the arts have bled us dry for decades. When will it stop? Not while philistines control the purse strings.
