Uni. Honours Artists

Quentin Blake (left) with Professor Michael Thorne (2007)Today, struggling Anglia Ruskin University, which axed at least 80 academic posts this year to save money, awarded honorary doctorates to children's illustrator Quentin Blake and cartoonist Ronald Searle. Here's Quentin receiving his diploma from Prof. Michael Thorne. Ronald couldn't make it. I always wonder why successful people accept honorary doctorates from universities. They don't need them. It's the university that benefits through association with a famous person. Coxsoft Art would expect a fat cheque for sponsoring a university in this way. Er ... any offers?
