Great Female Artists

Anna Lea Merritt - Love Locked Out (1889)Art News Blog has stirred up a debate by having had the good sense to suggest that "Art should be bought on merit, not the sex of the artist." The feminists want a quota system to force white, male museum curators to buy female tripe. Like many political groups, they force reality into their own blinkered notions: poor downtrodden female artists. Here's just a sample of successful female artists who didn't need any sexist quota to sell their work: Sofonisba Anguissola (c.1532-1625), Artemisia Gentileschi (1593-c.1652), Judith Leyster (1609-1660), Mary Beale (1633-99), Elizabeth Bouguereau (1837-1922), Anna Lea Merritt (1844-1930), Evelyn de Morgan (1855-1919), Julie Ellis, Karen Noles, Rowena Morrill. Great artists. A quota system would insult them.
