Summit of Equals
Portuguese PM Jose Socrates hails the Afro-EU leadership meeting as a "summit of equals", a description which we assume includes Africa's top exponents of democracy Robert "Should-have-gone-to-Specsavers" Mugabe and Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi. The latter has set up a tent outside Lisbon threatening "terrorism, emigration or revenge" if Europe fails to compensate its former African colonies! And don't forget that this meeting is taking place in Portugal, that land fit for paedophiles according to Interpol, where brutish police stitch up the innocent parents of abducted children in order to protect Algarve tourism. In short, this is a meeting between greedy African fat cats clamouring for more euros and European fat cats hoping to block China from the growing African market. Chubby kitten German Chancellor Angela Merkel made the token gesture of moaning about oppression in Zimbabwe (CLICK), but that won't worry Mugabe. So where's the art story? you wonder. It's the political art of making this farce sound like something that might benefit humanity.
