Homer and Hopper

Winslow Homer is one of those great American artists whose work I admire. What I didn't know was that he made his living by selling watercolours and painted nearly 700 between 1873 and 1905. If you live in or near Chicago, here's a treat. The Art Institute of Chicago presents Watercolors by Winslow Homer: The Color of Light, from 16 February to 10 May 2008. The Water Fan (ca 1898) is one of his paintings which will be on display. If this doesn't tempt you, ARTIC will be showing another fine American artist during the same period, Edward Hopper, an exhibition previously held in Washington DC (CLICK). Note: the fault I reported on the National Gallery of Art website has been corrected, thanks to the website designers' heeding my complaint.
