Stuckism Best In Show

Best in Show (previous post and left picture) reminds me of Michael Dickinson's approaching trial on 24 March. That's the title of one of his two satirical collages which broke Turkish law by lampooning Turkey's Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan. The other is Good Boy (right). The judge presiding over Michael's case sought opinion from university arts professors on the offending collages. Oo-er. If found guilty, Michael faces up to 3 years in prison. Click the title link for more information and to sign a petition on Michael's behalf. Best of luck, Michael.

Thanks.

This quote from a friend -

"Your last court appearance sounds positive. Surely any art prof with half a brain can attest to the rich history of political satire, among which your collages can take their place. Maybe not pride of place - that remains for posterity to judge. I hope I'm not being unduly optimistic."

Inshallah!

Hi, Michael

Let's hope your friend is right. The fact that the judge referred your work to art professors suggests he has an open mind on the case. But do Turkish profs chortle at Jak, Giles, Scarf and the rest?

What about entering some British cartoons lampooning Blair, Bush & Co into evidence to show the judge the type of culture you come from? It should count toward mitigating circs if nothing else.
