Princes For USA
Here's art news for my North American readers. Thomas Holloway's fine collection of Victorian paintings - held in the college he founded, the Royal Holloway, now part of the University of London - will go on a two-year tour of the USA, opening at the Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on 12 October: Paintings from the Reign of Victoria: The Royal Holloway Collection, London. This is the first time these paintings have left Britain. One of the masterpieces on tour will be Princes in the Tower (1878) by Sir John Everett Millais, one of our greatest artists. Without undue pathos, Millais perfectly captures the nervous uncertainty of two doomed youngsters trying not to show their fear. The Philbrook Museum was offline when I tried to visit it, so the title link takes you to The Royal Holloway Collection for further details.
