Forensic Art: A First

Student Project - Facial Reconstruction of Egyptian Mummy (2008)One of my perpetual moans is the number of UK artists with diplomas and no appreciable artistic talent (next post down). Here's the exact opposite. There is only one degree course in Forensic Art in the entire world, and its first students graduated this year! So, all experts in this field are self-taught with training from senior colleagues. The Centre for Forensic and Medical Art at Dundee University (title link) runs the new course. Dr Caroline Wilkinson is a senior lecturer (CLICK, CLICK). Artworks by its graduates are on display in the Masters Show at the Cooper Gallery at Duncan of Jordanstone College until 18 September. This facial reconstruction is of an Egyptian mummy.

Perhaps the best "art" exhibit I have seen in years want art at all. The tour of bassically freeze driedma dn fileted bodies, where the organs are removed, adn muscles, tendons, nerves, are exposed in different poses and each subject having a themes or area to be viewed. it was beautiful. Sad too, as one was of a pregnant woman who died in an automobile acident, and had her womb open with the fetus inside. Also had fetus in jars at different stages, and some woman stole one putting it in her purse and walking out. Also a horse was skinned and viewed, its muscles were magnificent. Not gory at all. Far more interesting than pickled sharks and dead pony with narwhale horn attached.

Hi, Donald

It's surprising where beauty can be found. I saw a scan of an elephant foetus last year. What a little beauty! And some of the microscopic close-up photos of spores and other unseen things can be breathtaking. Yet art prizes and big money investments go to artists who paint or sculpt Ugly! It makes no sense to me.
