Fry Art Gallery
The Art Fund has been lashing out lately. Here's another work it helped to buy: Eric Ravillious' Demonstrating A Machine Gun, which was unfinished at the time of the artist's death in 1942. The Fry Art Gallery in Saffron Walden, Essex, paid £24,000 for this unfinished watercolour, of which £7,000 was contributed by The Art Fund. It's more important historically than artistically, because Ravillious was an official war artist who lived locally. The gallery has also bought Keith Vaughan's abstract oil painting Harrow on the Hill III for £35,000 with another £7,000 contribution from The Art Fund (CLICK).
