Cartoons and Coronets

Osbert Lancaster - Maudie & Motor Show (1952) © Anne LancasterTo celebrate the centenary of the birth of Sir Osbert Lancaster (1908-86) The Wallace Collection has opened the first major exhibition of his satirical drawings: Cartoons and Coronets: The Genius of Osbert Lancaster (title link). The caption in this classic cartoon Maudie & Motor Show (1952) reads: "But surely there must be something for the coronet-wearing classes!!" Not only was he a leading political cartoonist, but also a designer for Covent Garden and Glyndebourne. The exhibition covers the full range of his works. Admission is free.
