Angelica Kauffman

Did you know that Angelica Kauffmann (1741-1807) died in Rome on 5 November? Having today trashed the Brit. Soc. Ass's ignorant attempt at a politically correct substitute for Old Master (2 posts down) I'm surprised by this coincidence. Angelica Kauffmann is one of the few women who can lay claim to the title of Old Master. I must admit Old Mistress doesn't have quite the same ring to it. Here is her sensitive and masterful painting of Amore and Psyche (1792), a treat to behold. (Isn't it amazing and sexist that we romanticize women's sexual abuse of underage boys!)
