Ephebe at Getty Villa
How many of today's British art school graduates would be capable of producing a sculpture approaching the quality of this 2000-year-old statue? An unknown artist created Statue of an Ephebe (Youth) as Lampbearer around 20-10 BC. The bronze is inlaid with copper and glass. The statue was excavated from the ashes of Pompeii in 1925. The Museo Archeologico Nazionale in Naples has lent it to the J. Paul Getty Museum, which is now displaying it at the Getty Villa in Malibu, California. Entrance is free, but you must book (CLICK). Note: I've enhanced an edited version of the original graphic (title link) by increasing GAMMA and CONTRAST with XnView.
