Miró

This early work by Joan Miró The Farm (1921-22) marked a turning point in his career. From then on his painting went downhill, but his pointless abstracts gained him fame. On Thursday Tate Passé opens Miró, the first major retrospective of the artist in nearly 50 years (title link). Was it worth the wait? No. More than 150 paintings, works on paper and sculptures have been gathered together to bring in the punters, but it's just boring old Miró, and Tate expects you to pay £15.50, silver surfers £13.50, for the privilege of viewing this stuff. It's yesterday's fad. Why bother? Save your money and avoid queuing by borrowing a book on Miró from your local library. CLICK to see a video of Will Gompertz interviewing curator Matthew Gale.
