A 'New' da Vinci

Here's another rediscovered painting that once belonged to King Charles I of England, then to Charles II, then to the Duke of Buckingham.... (Familiar story? CLICK.) It turned up in a sorry state in 1900 when it was acquired by Sir Frederick Cook, whose descendants sold it at auction for a mere £45 in 1958. By then it was no longer recognizable as a da Vinci. Now restored and currently in New York, Leonardo da Vinci's Salvator Mundi (Saviour of the World) is accepted by experts as the real deal. It will be heading to London to be included in The National Gallery's expensive Winter blockbuster: Leonardo da Vinci: Painter at the Court of Milan, which I've already previewed (CLICK). The title link takes you to a larger graphic of the painting and more details.
