German Fakes

These are two of the modern art fakes that will be used as evidence in a major fraud trial that began today in Cologne, Germany (title link). Four people are accused of selling 44 fake paintings during the last 10 years. More than 160 witnesses are expected to give evidence during the trial, which will probably last 40 days. The frauds came to light when one of the fakes was subjected to scientific analysis and failed the test. I'm afraid my attitude is "Hard cheese, chumps." Anyone who buys junk like this is asking to be ripped off.

Very foolish. Only one of the 44 dupes had the sense to have his painting scientifically tested, and that proved to have paint that was wrong for the claimed period. That started the ball rolling. If you follow my link to the BBC website, a scientist on video gives her view of the silly behaviour of collectors. She makes a lot of sense.
