Royal Manuscripts
Today the British Library in London opened a major new exhibition: Royal Manuscripts: The Genius of Illumination, which runs until 13 March 2012 (title link). Covering 800 years of medieval and Renaissance illuminated manuscripts collected by the kings and queens of England, this is virtually a history of Western art. Above is a detail from Jean de Wavrin's Recueil des chroniques d’Engleterre vol. 1 (c. 1475) showing the author presenting his chronicle to King Edward IV. As these exhibits are all drawn from the British Library collection, prices seem a bit steep at adults £9 and silver surfers £7. CLICK for an excellent Paul Kerley slide show.
