Death: A Self-portrait
If you're into death, this is the exhibition for you: Death: A Self-portrait, the Richard Harris Collection (CLICK). It opens on 15 November and clanks its bones until 24 February 2013. The exhibition features some 300 macabre objects from the private collection of former antique-print dealer Richard Harris. The objects range from an exquisite Japanese netsuke to rare prints by Rembrandt, Dürer and Goya. CLICK for a Telegraph slide show. Above is the engraving Mors Ultima Linea Rerum (Death the Final Boundary of Things) which shows a surgeon trying to push Death away from a naked young woman. The Telegraph claims this is circa 1570, but it looks far too modern for that date. Look at his shoes. My guess is about 1930.
Update: CLICK for a Paul Kerley musical slide show with voiceover by Wellcome Collection curator Kate Forde
