Noor Inayat Khan

Here's the latest war memorial in London, unveiled today in Gordon Square Gardens by Princess Anne: Karen Newman's Bust of Noor Inayat Khan, a Sufi Muslim Indian Princess who joined Churchill's Special Operations Executive (SOE) and was sent to occupied Paris as an underground radio operative. She was betrayed, captured by the Germans, starved and tortured for 10 months without given away her mission; then sent to Dachau Concentration Camp, where she was shot in the head and killed by an SS officer on 13 September 1944. She was posthumously awarded the George Cross and Croix de Guerre. CLICK for a BBC video. CLICK for the Noor Memorial Trust. CLICK for a video of the unveiling.
