Joyful Mysteries?

The Fine Art Society in New Bond Street, London, has recently opened its third solo exhibition of new paintings by Scottish artist John Byrne, probably better known in England as a playwright and TV scriptwriter. John Byrne: The Joyful Mysteries 2 is something of a misnomer, because his latest paintings mainly depict grotesque, sinister, cigarette-smoking Teddy boys from his memory of the 1950s. Shown is his The Minstrel boy and the Bird that Will Sing No More (2012) which I prefer to the Teddy boys in their brothel-creeper shoes. The show lounges along until 24 November (CLICK).
