Ray Harryhausen RIP

American special effects wizard Ray Harryhausen has died aged 92 (CLICK). In the days before computer aided design, he created fiendish monsters by hand and used the same laborious stop-motion, frame-by-frame filming that is still used in the Wallace & Gromit movies today. Above are three models of skeletons he created for the dragon's teeth battle scene in Jason and the Argonauts (1963). The Medusa he created for Clash of the Titans (1981) is still scary today (CLICK). In 2010 Ray donated his entire collection of about 20,000 models, armatures, moulds, miniatures, equipment, stills, negatives, sketches and concept drawings to the National Media Museum in Bradford, UK (CLICK). I'm sure they will be treasured.
