Buddha Caves Revealed

12th Century Buddha Mural found in Cave (2007)This news item may seem rather tame after the exploits of Super Toad, but it gets Coxsoft Art back on the art trail. An international team of archaeologists, researchers and film makers has been led by a Nepalese shepherd to a network of caves in the Himalayan Mountains in the Mustang area of Nepal. Here a treasure trove of Buddhist paintings, Tibetan manuscripts and artifacts dating from at least the 12th Century has been discovered. Among the treasures is a 25ft-long mural with 55 panels depicting the story of Buddha's life. As you can see by the photograph, the mural is in good condition. It is safe to predict happy archaeological diggings in these caves for many years.
