My Penguin Art Stunt

Beck - Cover Art for Le Grand Meaulnes by Alain FournierPenguin Press has launched its My Penguin project, which encourages readers to design their own covers for their favourite books. Penguin asked seven musicians to design covers to start the project. This cover art by Beck for Le Grand Meaulnes by Alain Fournier isn't bad. The big question is: Will Penguin publish all its books with blank covers from now on? If it does, life will be hell for booksellers, librarians and readers. If not, what is the purpose of this daft idea, other than to get publicity? Is business that bad, Penguin?

Resists urge to groan!

As you say, publicity stunt.

Grand Meaulnes is such a beautiful book, this cover does not do it justice.

I guess Penguin is desperate to do something to compete with Harry Potter. Doubt if this will do it. I can't see the point of personlizing a book, apart from putting a plastic cover on it for protection and your name inside.
