Stag Beetles Threatened

Albrecht Dürer - Male Stag Beetle (1505)This beauty is Britain's largest beetle: the Stag Beetle, named after its "antlers". It is a partially protected species in the UK. Collecting them for sale is a crime. Slow worms are a protected species. Killing them is a crime. In an act of crass vandalism, councillors of the London Borough of Redbridge have voted to sell plots of land that include four allotments, at least two of which are home to stag beetles and slow worms. There is no way these plots can be "developed" without killing endangered fauna. It seems Redbridge councillors are prepared to break the law to get what they want: £150,000,000. If you care about protecting our open spaces, our allotments, our wildlife habitats, our stag beetles and our slow worms, please click the title link to sign a No 10 e-petition.
