The De Brays

Jan de Bray - Portrait of Abraham Casteleijn and Margarieta van Bancken (1663)Today the Dulwich Picture Gallery opened an exhibition from the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem, The Netherlands, on an almost forgotten family of artists that dominated the Dutch Golden Age. Painting Family: The De Brays, Master Painters of 17th Century Holland continues until 5 October. Look at the quality of Jan de Bray's Portrait of Abraham Casteleijn and Margarieta van Bancken (1663). Jan's father Salomon and brothers Dirck and Joseph were all important artists in their day. If you visit this exhibition before 30 September, you'll also be able to view another Dutch exhibition: The Phoenix of all Flower Painters: Jan van Huysum and Dutch Still-life Painting. And note Kennington Kids - Raw Urban, which I previewed in June and wrote "Pity it couldn't have stayed open for the school summer hols" (CLICK). Then it was due to close on 20 June. It's now due to close on 29 August. Maybe somebody heeded my comment.
