Rapunzel & The Hoodie

Nick Walker - Rapunzel and Hoodie (2008)Bristol artist Nick Walker has taken a leaf out of Banksy's book with a new mural on the side of the Highbury Vaults pub in Bristol. It's tagged, stencilled and signed and shows Rapunzel letting her hair down for a hoodie to climb up to her window. I don't think this sort of thing will catch on, Nick, especially if you can't get the scaffolding down before the cameras arrive. Try to be original. What about Father Time letting his beard down for Lara Croft to scale it. I'd buy that! Over to you, Banksy.

what are you talking about,
its very good and very well painted.
could you climb up there at night and do this undercover? nick walker has been painting in bristol with this style for many many years longer than banksy so i think banksy has taken a leaf out of nick walkers book.
also blek le rat from paris has been painting the streets for over 20 years in the same style and also painting rats, banksy ripped that idea straight from him....

I was joking when I wrote "I don't think this sort of thing will catch on"! It's going on all over the world. There are currently major exhibitions of graffiti art at Tate Modern and in Germany.

Banksy is the one who's caught public attention, especially in London and in Hollywood. One of his rats is beside the brass nameplate on BBC Television Centre! Whether he's original or not, he's the one getting fame and fortune out of his art. His anonymity helps. He's thought of as the Scarlet Pimpernell of graffiti art.

It's not necessarily the best artists who win fame and fortune. It's the ones who know how to promote themselves.
