Yang Peiyi The Singer

Remember this Chinese cherub who sang so beautifully at the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing's bedpan stadium and who was subsequently hoisted into the air on wires? It's no great revelation to discover that she mimed. The singer was Yang Peiyi. The little star who did the miming and the showmanship was Lin Miaoke. What did and does surprise me is that a seven-year-old (Yang Peiyi) could sing in tune. The BBC commentator described her as an "ordinary schoolgirl". Try getting a class of Brit. seven-year-olds to sing in tune! Most of them can't even speak English!
