Indian Obscenity Update
Last year I wrote two posts on the rise of Hindu Fundamentalism, its threat to Indian artists (CLICK) and its insane charge of obscenity against M.F. Husain, a third-rate Picasso who is one of India's leading artists (CLICK). His painting Mother India raised a ruckus among fanatics. The good news is that India's Supreme Court has refused to bring criminal proceedings against him. It took the sensible view that the country has a long history of nudity in art with many sculptures of nudes on Hindu temples, and M.F. Husain was following that tradition. He can now stop living in exile and return home.
