Lord Mayor's Show

A Damp Cherub in the Parade (8/11/08)If you fancy standing in the pouring rain watching 6,000 performers drip past to martial music, then the annual Lord Mayor's Show in the City of London is the one for you. The procession route is three miles long, so there's plenty of room for everyone to get soaked. All this expensive tomfoolery is to introduce the 681st Lord Mayor, Ian Luder, who will swear an oath of allegiance to the Queen before the Lord Chief Justice and senior judges, all looking soppy in knee-breeches and wigs! The day ends with a fireworks display on the Thames, between Waterloo and Blackfriars bridges, from 5pm. Click the title link for details.
