No God Advert

British Humanist Association advert: THERE'S PROBABLY NO GOD. NOW STOP WORRYING AND ENJOY YOUR LIFE. (2008)Did you see Sunday's punch-up between two orders of Christian monks in Jerusalem, with Israeli police trying to pull the thugs apart (CLICK)? If you thought they looked like gangs of football hooligans in fancy dress, you weren't far off the mark. Football hooligans, street gangs, religious nutters; it's all primitive tribalism. The British Humanist Association (BHA) is so fed up with all the arguments and mayhem caused by religion that it's booked advertising space on London's bendy buses to promote the above message, which will appear in January 2009 (CLICK). The pre-ad publicity created by the Atheist Bus Campaign has already raised £140,000 in donations (CLICK) and has attracted 200 new members to the BHA (title link). As tribes go, it's smarter than most.

No, but I did see the Man City v Spurs match - 3 reds and 3 yellows!

did you know that the red/yellow card system was invented by a local celeb? There is a bench and tree in Barkingside rec in his memory.

Oh, you missed a treat: bearded Greek Orthodox types thumping one another in Christianity's Holy of Holies. The football match sounds tame stuff by comparison.

No, I didn't know that. I haven't been in Barkingside Rec. for yonks.

We have some ads from the same or like minded group on Metro transit in Washington DC. Xtians are outraged but Metro can't pull the ad because of religion.
Good. Atheists have not much freedom to proclaim their views (unless they want their tires slashed). It's about time to put it in their faces.

Glad you agree, Rabbit. It's about time both our countries listened to a sane point of view. Did you know that the World Health Organisation officially classifies "religiosity" as a mental disease? I think of that every time I hear the Archbishop of Canterbury or the Pope going all holy.

At least the USA has the sense to keep religion out of schools. Every school in the UK must teach religion! At least one commentator has likened teaching kids religion to psychological child abuse.

I saw a TV programme on Nigeria's Witch Children recently. Horrific. Once a Christian priest has accused a child of witchcraft, the child is tortured until he or she confesses, unless the parent has enough money to bribe the priest to do an exorcism. If not, the child is either killed or thrown out of its village to starve. Kids of 5 and less! They limp around with broken bones or scars of scalding oil on their bodies. Dreadful. And that's Nigeria's version of Christianity.

The sooner we replace superstition with logic and scientific reasoning the better. But I can't see it happening. And the atheists who've grabbed power don't help: Stalin, Pohl Pot, Mao!
