Mrs Sheridan at Dulwich
Yesterday the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London unveiled the latest loan in its Masterpiece A Month bicentenary celebrations (title link). The National Gallery of Art, Washington, has loaned the gallery Thomas Gainsborough's Mrs Richard Brinsley Sheridan (1785-87). Mrs Sheridan was Elizabeth of The Linley Sisters, painted by Gainsborough in 1772 and now owned by the Dulwich Picture Gallery (CLICK). This painting of Elizabeth as Mrs Sheridan aged 31 was to be his last portrait of her; she died of tuberculosis in 1792. You have until 2 October to view this portrait and compare it with The Linley Sisters before it returns to the USA.
