Newspapers Archive
The British Library in partnership with technology firm Brightsolid has created the British Newspapers Archive (title link). This is a massive project. Four million pages of newspapers from the 18th and 19th Centuries have already been digitised for public viewing. It will take 10 years to scan 40 million pages of newspapers published over the last 300 years. The BBC's technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones visited Colindale in north London to dip into the archives and learn about the project (CLICK for video). As you can see, there is a wealth of illustrations already available online. You can search for free, but to download material you must pay. An annual subscription will cost £79.95; 30 days will cost £29.95; 2 days will cost (£6.95).
