Rembrandt Confirmed

This masterly painting Bearded Old Man (c.1630) was thought to have been by one of Rembrandt's students. X-ray analysis of the 6 x 8 inch painting has revealed an unfinished self-portrait of Rembrandt as a young man. He is known to have painted over his unsold works; he was running a business, after all. Ernst van de Wetering of the Rembrandt Research Project says that the style and quality of the painting provide the strongest arguments for its authenticity, but the X-ray evidence is also important.
