Ernest Borgnine RIP
Oscar-winning actor Ernest Borgnine has died in the Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles aged 95. His family were at his bedside (CLICK). His build and pugnacious features often saw him cast as a heavy. In John Sturges' Bad Day at Black Rock (1955) he outshone two of the greatest Hollywood heavies: Robert Ryan and Lee Marvin. That is a must-see film for Borgnine's performance alone. But it was playing the shy, sensitive bachelor in Marty (1955) that won him his Oscar. Above is a still from Marty, showing Borgnine eyeing Betsy Blair as a prospective girlfriend.

Another of the greats gone. Another superb actor has left us. In the same week as Eric Sykes, we have lost two great performers.
Indeed. Both had a good innings, though. Even stars are mortal.
