A 'New' Canaletto

This previously unrecorded pen and ink drawing with grey wash by Canaletto, Campo San Giacomo di Rialto, Venice, has been in the same family for over a century. The current owners were unaware of its value until they approached Sotheby’s in Paris for a valuation. It is estimated to be worth £300,000 to £500,000. This beautiful and historic masterpiece comes up for grabs tomorrow in Sotheby’s Old Master Drawings Sale in London. CLICK for a larger graphic.

I'd be very surprised if this masterpiece doesn't go for more. It's exquisite. About time we all rummaged around to see if we had anything like that in our lofts.

It's a cracker. Not sure it was in the loft though. Private collection. I have a pen and ink drawing by a Royal Academician, bought for £10 decades ago, but it isn't up to this standard.
