Day of the Girl

Did you know that today is the International Day of the Girl? The logo on the left depicts a clenched fist in a flower to represent Girl Power. (CLICK for the official website.) The photo shows a heroine of female education in that benighted Muslim country Pakistan, the home of Islamic extremists. Her name is Malala Yousafzai and she is 14 years old. Since she was 11 she's been writing a BBC Urdu diary about life under the Taliban (CLICK). On Tuesday the Taliban caught up with her. She was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman. Her crime? Being too secular and un-Islamic. Even Pakistan was shocked by this brutality; officials have offered a 10m rupee (£66,000) reward for information leading to the arrest of her attackers. Fat chance of any response. The bullet has been removed from Malala's head and doctors think she has a 70% chance of recovery (CLICK). The Taliban have claimed responsibilty for the shooting and  threaten to kill her if she survives. It will take more than a Girl Power logo to stop these Fundamentalist Muslim thugs.
