Catlin Shortlist

The shortlist for the Catlin Art Prize has been announced. Nine art graduates from the UK's most suspect art colleges have been selected to show new work one year on from their degree shows (CLICK). Bee Griffith is the one real artist among them. Shown are her Woman With a Bear Skin and Man With A Black Dog (2013). There is also one excellent photographer in the shortlist, Juno Calypso - surely a nom de plume - and one who does pretty things using light as a sculptural medium: David Ogle. As for the rest, I don't know how they passed their final year exams! (CLICK for a BBC slide show to see what I mean.) The exhibition opens at the Londonewcastle Project Space, 28 Redchurch Street, E2 7DP, on 2 May and limps along until 26 May. The winner of the £5,000 prize will be announced on 22 May. There is also a visitors' choice award.
