Tintoretto in V&A

Today, for some reason best known to one of its editors, BBC News posted an article about this painting The Embarkation of St Helena in the Holy Land (c. 1555) which is now attributed to Jacopo Tintoretto (CLICK). Originally the Victoria and Albert Museum in London had attributed it to his contemporary Andrea Schiavone. It's still a rather silly Mannerist daub. The painting has been on display in the exhibition Research on Paintings: Art History and Connoisseurship since December 2012. It's in Prints & Drawings Room 90, admission free (CLICK). So what took the BBC so long to break this news?
