Bern Gets It

The Museum of Fine Arts (Kunstmuseum) of Bern, Switzerland, has been gobsmacked to learn that it is the sole beneficiary of Cornelius Gurlitt, who died on 6 May (CLICK). Bern gets the lot, including 450 paintings thought to have been plundered from Jews during the Holocaust. At a guess, Gurlitt was furious with The Fatherland for trying to snatch his ill-gotten collection. Shown is Ferdinand Hodler's Der Tag (The Day) from 1900, one of the Kunstmuseum's paintings on permanent display. CLICK to read its press release.
