The Black Prince
I'm amazed by the Yorkshire enthusiasm for the Tour de France. If they're so keen to see cyclists dicing with death, they should visit London and watch cyclists dodging blind-sided juggernauts. The tour kicked off with a parade through Leeds City Centre, where Thomas Brock's magnificent equestrian statue of Edward the Black Prince (1903) had donned a leader's yellow jersey for the occasion. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry attended the opening ceremony, with Kate cutting the tape. The Red Arrows roared overhead trailing a tricolour. The day ended in Harrogate with Mark Cavendish crashing out with a shoulder injury (CLICK).
