Van Dyck No Sale

Back in December I posted news of this Portrait Sketch by Sir Anthony van Dyck, which had been purchased for £400 and years later brought along to BBC's Antiques Roadshow for valuation. Presenter Fiona Bruce thought it might be genuine and called in portrait expert Philip Mould, who advised cleaning and restoring the painting, which was then authenticated by Van Dyck expert Dr Christopher Brown (CLICK). It came up for grabs in Christie's London auction and failed to sell, presumably because the reserve price was too high. Father Jamie MacLeod, who owns the painting, will have to wait a while longer before he can order his new bells (CLICK).
