Andy Warhol

Today Tate Liverpool opened Transmitting Andy Warhol, showing more than 100 of his boring pop assaults on art: soup cans, sex symbols with smeared lipstick and eyeshadow and so on (CLICK). This acrylic painting Do It Yourself (1962) is the best thing I spotted. It has a distinctly paint-by-numbers look, which comes from his pretentious belief that he could democratise art for the plebs. Advertising does that. Admission costs £8 for adults, £6 for silver surfers. Are Liverpudlians daft enough to pay such prices?
