Open Garden Squares Weekend

Horse Sculpture in Lexham Gardens (Photo: Colin Wing)
Many of London's leafy squares are privately owned; only keyholders may enter them. We impoverished plebs must peer through their railings to glimpse the treasures within. Open Garden Squares Weekend - Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 June - is our only chance to enter these privileged areas. Having trawled the gardens on offer, Coxsoft Art can tell you they all look tickety-boo. At least two sport interesting sculptures. The horse shown is in Lexham Gardens W8 (Saturday 3pm - 5pm) which has won the All-London Garden Square Best Garden Award 3 times and the Brighter Kensington & Chelsea Prize 8 times. Fitzroy Square (Sunday 10am - 6pm) is the only London square designed by Robert Adam. It has one of those touchy-feely abstract sculptures that Barbara Hepworth made fashionable. (Dunno if it is a Hepworth, but it looks like one). As you can see, open days and times vary, so click the title link for more info.

I'm not surprised by your reaction to visiting a chocolate factory. If you ever get the chance, view an old Brit movie made by the Boulting Brothers called "I'm All Right, Jack". It stars Ian Carmichael and Peter Sellers and begins with our hero starting work in a sweet factory! You have got to see this.
