Black Heritage

Black Trumpeter at Henry VIII's Tournament (1511)Black Heritage "The Ultimate Black History Month Guide" is a glossy magazine available free from your local library in the UK, but don't dither: they go like hot cakes. Page 80 reprints this painting from 1511, taken from the Brit. National Archives. It shows John Blanke, a Black trumpeter to kings Henry VII and Henry VIII, who was paid 8d a day for his trumpeting (d = old pennies).
