Laurits Andersen Ring

Here's an artist I haven't come across before: Laurits Andersen Ring (1854-1933). The Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen is showing a major retrospective of his work: L.A. Ring. On the Edge of the World, until 7 January 2007. Ring is apparently an influential figure in Danish art, a Realist and Symbolist painter. Looks good to me, whatever you call it. The picture on the left is At the French Windows: The Artist's Wife (1897); on the right is The Signalman (1884). Both works are beautifully composed and have an atmospheric quality.
