Spruce Switched On

To prove the UK's Green credentials, here's the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree, a Norwegian Spruce which Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway switched on yesterday, accompanied by Mayor Red Ken. This is our annual gift from Norway since 1947 as a thank-you for Britain's support in World War II. It is garlanded with energy-efficient light bulbs and will remain lit until 6 January, when it will be recycled. So there!
