Not Vista Again!

Lefebvre - Pandora (detail) with her boxApple has told iTunes users to "wait" before upgrading their computers to Windows Vista, due to incompatibility problems (title link). This sounds like good advice generally. The Virus Bulletin recently reported that Microsoft's Windows Live OneCare security tool - designed to work with super secure Vista - flunked its test, missing far more active viruses than any other program tested (CLICK)! Oh, Bill! Despite all the bad news, PC retailers are jumping on the Vista bandwagon as though it's manna from Heaven. Brochures and full-page ads are offering PC's with Vista for about £400. Beware the weasel words "for an enhanced Vista experience" to describe optional extras. Translation: "The basic PC we're offering you is underpowered for Vista!" I visited Dell's website to price a genuine entry-level PC for Vista with 1GB RAM, dual core processor and other essential bits: £886. And that's cutting out the High Street retailer. Be sensible; take Apple's advice: "wait". Until the January sales 2008!
