An Open Letter

Her Excellency Madam Fu YingTo Her Excellency Madam Fu Ying, Ambassador of the Peoples Republic of China to the UK

Your Excellency

I was appalled by the following headline in Wildlife Extra: "Disgust as tiger meat is found on Chinese menu" (title link). An ITV crew has obtained DNA evidence that tiger meat is being served at China's largest tiger farm. And why are there tiger farms in China? So that their bones can be ground up in the mistaken, unscientific and insane belief that the product will give flagging Chinese men erections! I am further appalled to discover that some 4,000 captive-bred tigers are held on these disgusting farms and that their rich owners are putting pressure on the Chinese government to lift its ban on trading in tiger products. Please be advised that this beautiful animal is on the endangered species list and that the importation into the UK of products containing any of its parts is illegal. Furthermore, with all due respect to the immensely impressive culture of China, any country which allows the exploitation and unnecessary slaughter of an endangered species makes itself look like a gang of primitive savages. Please do all in your power to persuade your government to educate its people to protect the tiger.

Yours sincerely
