New van Gogh in Boston

Vincent van Gogh - Ravine (1889) Photo © Museum of Fine Arts, BostonVincent van Gogh is back in the news again. This time it's a genuine work thought lost. The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, X-rayed a van Gogh bequeathed to it by Keith McLeod - Ravine, shown - and found Wild Vegetation underneath, both dating from 1889. Short of canvases, Vincent had painted over Wild Vegetation. Big decision: clean off Ravine to reveal Wild Vegetation or respect the lunatic's choice? Ravine clearly expresses his depression. The following year he shot himself to death.
