Hildegard von Bingen

Hildegard von Bingen - Universal Man, detail, from Liber Divinorum Operum (1165)Modern feminists have created the myth that women were downtrodden sex slaves until Feminism arrived to save them. Complete cobblers. Take Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179), a hugely creative talent: artist, author, counsellor, dramatist, linguist, naturalist, philosopher, physician, poet, political consultant, prophet, visionary and composer. She invented her own musical notation; so we can still enjoy the plainchants she wrote for her nuns almost a millennium ago. If you need to relax after a day's hassles, Hildegard's your girl. That she was a brainwashed Catholic severely cramped her thinking, but not her creativity. Downtrodden? Buy one of her CD's and listen to the truth (not the lyrics; the music itself).
